An update on this post...... The engine at idle uses about 2.5 ltrs per hr whilst the alternator was pumping out up to 60 amps into my AGM battery. Whilst this was more than a small invertor generator it certainly saves the hassle of carrying one if you just need a bit more juice in the battery...
