I recently brought a 2012 d22 with the yd25. 108,000 K’s

It runs great for the most part.

However it has a good cloud of black smoke when high rpm. Idles niceley no smoke on a cold start good power super fuel efficient but yea just when you hit 3k rpm ish it will do a pretty decent cloud. Doesn’t happen going fast in 5th or anything just in 2nd or 3rd when building boost.

It also did overheat ever so slightly in hilly terrain 30 degree heat AC blasting + a heavy load. So I presume there could be some good aftermarket cooling upgrades?

blocking egr would be the first thing i would do.
Yea that’s what I’ve heard. Will it be alright for a little while? I’ve just brought it cash so bank account not looking great at the moment. And do you know if that is a legality problem I’m from NZ
 
your not meant to, but no one is going to notice. usually it just a blocking plate, but the yd25 guys will know more about it than me.
 
The thing with the soot at 3K RPM is pretty normal for the car.

The overheating is a worry though. Mine's towed most every day since new & it hasn't done that. The needle sits just above the halfway mark once warmed up & doesn't move.

Yea it’s confused me a little bit. The needle barely moved it was the slightest mm. But then I could slightly smell it through the vents getting hot. It cooled down to Cold in like 20-30 mins. And ran perfectly the rest of the way home I think it was the full blast AC that did it.

I’m not too worried at the moment but if it does it again I’d get it looked at, fair opinion?
