Hi All,
I have a problem with my NP300 stx series 4 auto 2019

when changing from park into reverse, I get a rather loud noise from gearbox.
It doesn't happen every time- maybe 60% of the time
Occurs regardless of whether I'm parked on level, downhill or uphill surface.
I can stop in same spot at work & it happens when it feels like.

When I change out of park, I know its going to happen when I feel more tension on the gear lever & actually have to force it out of park.
When it doesn't I can flick it out with one finger!

Taken it to Nissan & they've reset gearbox twice & then adjusted something else still with no luck.

heres a link to a video I took

has anyone else got this problem?

any thought on what it might be?

I've always practiced a certain way of parking with my auto:

* Find where I want to stop, put the vehicle there
* Pull up the handbrake and release the foot brake, ensure the vehicle won't move
* Engage Park then switch off.

It's been my belief that allowing the car to rest on the parking pawl in the gearbox (which locks the drive train by pushing the pin in a hole) can gradually bend the pawl by allowing the weight of the vehicle to turn the drive shaft. This was further emphasised when we got in a car that the driver regularly would park on a slope by putting the vehicle in Park and THEN pull the handbrake after the car was resting on the pawl. It was very difficult to disengage park.

You can stop the vehicle in Neutral (with handbrake on firmly). Are there any issues with this? You might need to take your car to an auto gearbox specialist.

Did you end up finding an answer to your problem mate? I have a NP300 stx series 4 auto 2017 with the same issue....

Same with 2017 ST Series 2. Occurrence is random and does not seem related to parking on flat or slope. Nor sequence of applying park brake.

I think I have found a "Relearn" sequence that may correct it, but wont be home until thursday to test it. Waiting to hear if nissan are going to come to the party and replace the gearbox as it only has 66000km...

I had the same problem and it is common with the Navara D23's. they said way to get around it without the gears being destroyed in an auto, when you pull up, put it in Neutral first for a few seconds, then move to park. when you then go from park to reverse, there is no tension. same as changing from reverse to drive too quickly. it needs to go to neutral first. had no issues with it since 5,000km. only issue they found is Leak in middle of gearbox and transfer case (should be repaired for free under goodwill as Nissan has acknowledged this as a very common issue. good luck with them doing that if vehicle is out of warranty).

I find this happens on my NP300 if the front wheels are hard up against something like a wheel stop or kerb. Take the handbrake off and take foot off brake for moment to let the car roll back a little before shifting out of park. This usually works for me, although not every time.
