I purchased a 2011 Nissan Navara STX550 from new.
I had numerous problems with trying to have repairs carried out under warranty & extended warranty. As the 550’s didn’t come with a catch can installed, the Dealership had to replace the intercooler twice. On one occasion they had to take one of their only demo model.
Since then I have purchased & installed a after market high volume intercooler & catch can. Purchased price $ 2,300-00.
I am no grease monkey, but I have a pretty good toolbox at my availability, & I figure if a current day mechanic can do it, so can I.
Installing the catch can is not for individuals with little too no patience. It was possibly one of the most difficult jobs I have ever done on any vehicle, be it two, four, or even no wheels.
Other issues, the sensor to enable manual change have failed, so you have an option of Automatic or Automatic.
Probably the best after market product I have installed is a throttle controller. This is operated via Bluetooth. The Sports mode turns the vehicle into what could be dear described as a Truck with an engine that performs like a motocross bike.
Other issues I’ve had, I had to replace the rear differential. This was achieved by replacing the entire differential & axel with a second hand unit.
The electric windows muck up every now & then, not responding to the driver’s window switches.
The man problems have been engine oil leaks, now fixed by running a few conditioners in the oil.
Now the problem is the gearbox leaking oil.
I am currently trying to figure out where it is coming from. Somewhere at the top where you can’t see. I have dropped all of the gearbox oil out, removed the pan, replaced the filter & put it back together. There appears to be some leaking from a oil hose that I’m thinking is one of the feeds from/too the gearbox oil cooler.
As there is no room to get your hand & a spanner up to where you need to, I’m going to try & remove the metal shielding from the exhaust. This is just under the well hidden Turbocharger. All gr8 fun. I am currently off work with shoulder issues after surgery on the 20th of August 2021, this limits my ability to work on my 550.
Power & towing wise it has plenty of get up & go.
The problem with these Spanish built 550’s,
or at least mine, is keeping lubricants in them.
This is something that I’m still working on.

An update on the Transmission leak.
After a considerable amount of crawling around underneath the 550, I finally got the empty transmission topped too the correct level, even added 1ltr of Lucas no slip.
I’m not quite sure if 1ltr is enough, there doesn’t seem to be a ratio for this.
Anyhow I wen on a drive of around 110klms,
Checking the under side of the vehicle along with engine oil levels. Unfortunately the Lucas no slip, either wasn’t enough or somewhere at the top of the gearbox there is an issue that can’t be blocked by the Lucas product.
I have cleaned & refilled the gearbox. I will keep on the problem, but for the time being, I will keep to short runs & see how much oil it looses.
