Hi all, I have a 2005 Navara ZD30 and it seems very slow, no fault codes stored in ecu and starts and runs okay for 300k. I’ve tried a few things including removing the Cat and blanking EGR and throttle butterfly mod but it just seems slow, it is making 15psi of boost according to my launch x431 but I question throttle voltage as I’m getting 0.64v at idle and 4.08 fully depressed, anyone have any thoughts or know what throttle voltage should be? I’d imagine it’d be 0-5v as most modern stuff is.

Tia

Accelerator pedal: released 0.40 - 0.60V
Accelerator pedal: depressed Approx. 4.2V

there is also idle switch and full throttle switch.
just be aware that with normal tune you don't get much power after half throttle anyway.

has it always been slow or just started going slow?

Thanks for reply bud, I’ve only had it a few months and it’s always seemed a bit slow, it was completely standard until I got at it and did the cat etc, I’ve had inlet manifold off and cleaned it and the ports, they were already pretty good tbf but I wanted to make sure. Maybe it’s the way it is, we only had yd25 powered ones in uk so I’ve not driven a 3.0 to compare.

Thanks again as you have saved me the hassle of pulling throttle out and playing with that.

Ok. Have sane year d22 with zd30 motor. Bought at an auction and had never driven on before. Let’s just say it was the most “relaxed” Fidel I’d ever driven. It was pressuring the radiator and I could see whoever had owned had spent money trying all the usual‘cheap’ fixes when it was obvious the head or gasket was problem so I thought that’s reason it’s at the auction.
30k kms later -just on 300 k total- I’m having to start it with aero start, even tho it ran ok and motor was mechanically perfect. It was always slow on the accelerator, boosted to 15 psi, but showing a ‘check engine’ light. Took it to a diesel mechanic and he gave me the news the injector pump was shot. Put a reco one in and it’s a different vehicle. Turbo spools up from idle, and does all the things one would expect.
So get ur pump checked by a shop for delivery, the k’s are about when those pumps start to fail, and the fact someone decided to sell it is probably because they noticed it was getting tired.

Had another play today and found that throttle butterfly appeared to be closing when on throttle, I’ve completely disconnected all Vac lines as a temporary measure and it seems to go much better tbf, still a bit pedestrian but revs clean through to the governor now whereas before it didn’t really want to rev much passed 3.5k rpm. From memory what fails on VP pumps is usually the advance rack mechanism and it usually makes the engine knock real bad and usually throws a code for injection timing.

I did the egr butterfly mod when I pulled the manifold and cleaned bud. I’d really need I guess now to drive another to compare, I might be over expecting. Appreciate the help and comments from you guys though.

They're slow by modern standards to be fair. But with a few modifications they certainly do wake up. The sticking point for the ZD30 Navara has always been tuning the ECU to get more fuel into the engine but fortunately in Australia at least there is a business that can re-flash the ECU to improve the tune.

Quite possibly going to be bailing from Nz in the not to distant future for cairns and another D22 will be bought. I reckon a map on one would be a night and day difference, people knock VP44 pumps but they are pretty good tbf.

i got a chip sent over. pita finding someone with the gear to unsolder the old chip and solder in the chip holder.
mild tune because it does a lot of towing, but night and day difference. intercooler as well of course. it made it drive like a normal diesel.

I used to play with landrovers in the UK and Jose from td5inside was the man for that job. Where did you get chip sent from out of interest bud?

Border Automotive Engineering and Tuning in NSW is the best Border Automotive Engineering and Tuning | Remapped ECU Specialists . I'm on my 2nd tune from them and not a single issue. You can buy out right or do exchange (cheaper) all by mail no need for dyno just follow his recipe. Don't think it would matter whether in NZ or Aus.
