Word was that the EGR problem was more of a software fault than a physical component issue. I'm sure we had someone pop in here that worked for a dealership and they said they'd updated the software and forgot to replace the EGR valve and it still fixed the problem.
Unplugging the EGR valve will cause a CEL anyway, the valve has to be there whether it's blocked or not. I tried that with my car early on, to see if it would work.
