New jack from the Mighty Waikato, anyone got the info?
I have a 2003 d22 zd30 Nav
Radiator foaming, tried head gasket repair from supercheap NULON. It’s a lot better but still foaming. Should I buy another bottle? Maybe it needs two bottles? I’ve tried pretty much everything I can. So I’ve put it down to a cracked head or head gasket. Been searching high and low, does anybody have the mean blueprint on how to pull engine apart to fix on the cheap.

If you use to much antifreeze you will experience the issue of foaming. Also, the antifreeze when foaming and blowing back on your hood and fenders will damage the paint.15 Oct 2017
 
if its overheating the head will be cracked. diesels very rarely blow head gaskets.

download the manual as you will need it. just about everything on the block needs to come off.
one BIG catch is you must lock the sizzor gear before you take the timing chain off. failure to do so means you will need to buy a new one.

I’ve tried everything, when I first used gasket sealer it was magic for two days no bubbles, Nek minit foaming now, finally I’ve given up. Must be a cracked head. Yet a voice in my head doesn’t want to believe it, it’s saying spend another $100 on kseal it might work, but if it doesn’t I’m n **** from the wife. Ive spent about 11k on fixing almost everything 43000kms ago, new head, glow plugs, almost everything. I just don’t trust mechanics after that episode. The comps who did the job was John Edwards Motors from Otahuhu in Auckland. I was told they were really good but apparently they must not be. Anyways anyone got the info on how to remove head? The only way to be able to afford it is do the labour myself if not May as well give up sell for parts and get a Lux. Churr

Owch, but that's about right for what you got bloke!

There are test you can do to check the coolant for gasses, try another shop and get a second opinion...
If you have a "decent" toolbox and mechanical skills do the job yourself, but look into who is making the heads going back on these! Vachina crap, Poohindian crap, you need to find the manufacturer that made the heads for Nissan in Japan! Or the official oem factory in Japan..

I'll see if I can find you the TOWN in Japan that made them, that's where you need to get the head from, not fleabay or Spiro's 4x4 specialists!
The shop that did the job isn't at fault here, things happen my man, ***** goes south sometimes eh but you won't know untill you get test done and then maybe pulling the head..
I'd help you if you where local eh, buy the manual and read the section over and over and try and picture the process in your mind. Watch videos and read the post on here of people doing that job.
Its not hard, just give it lots of thought before you start anything! Like school days my man, you basically need to know the process/methods before you start the test ;)

Everyone has to do thier first head job mate lol go for it, what have you to loose! Costs sure, but do it slowly, a bit here a bit there and start buying parts week by week, I love AfterPay for this... look into the heads and who's spitting them out! Buy right!

I know GOOD shops that pull the valves and check and reseat valves and valve seats on these new heads because of quality control.. God knows what the cast and materials used are like! Does it say who the manufacturer was or where it came from on the invoice..
 
Interesting thread. Bought my 2005 D22with ZD30 engine. Got it cheap as it was pushing air into the radiator. Tried every known sealant on the shelf, still the same. That was 25,000 kms ago. I just put water in it when the temp gauge starts to move, usually every 300 kms. Don’t go over 100kph and no more than 10 psi of boost. So I’m interested to know what u find. One day I will have to pull the head on mine.
Watch some U tube videos before u do anything!!

Yeahhh funny you say that! Mine gave me the thoughts of a new head needed coming back from qld, twaz FULLY loaded with overloaded trailer and running "boiling hot" at times...
Did the water pump, looked fine to me, all fins/props intact!
Thermostat out and flush, heater core flush, new 3 core radiator and the RIGHT coolant and all seems fine today...

Yours sounds the same! If it was a head you'd think you'd know it by now eh! I'd try a coolant system overhaul/danm good service ;)

Aaaallllthough, it could be a small crack in the head, have it tested!
There's a test they/you can do to check for gasses in the coolant! If it is "air" coming from the pots it will show in the test...
Are you adding coolant OR JUST WATER each time lol she's sounding like an abused farm horse... The coolant system is most likely full of cow ***** ;) j.k...

Drop the Thermostat and give it treatment, flush and COOLANT ;) always repeat treatment and flush, both ways! Always reverse flush when servicing!
Buy the air and water adaptor for radiator flushes from superbleep !

Don't, DO NOT go overboard with air pressure when flushing! Psi by psi ok... baby steps! Start off with 3 or 4 psi, and be careful flushing heater cores with air and water! They can go pop, and Navara heater cores are as soft as a hand thats been soaked in C.R.C for a week :)

Oh, and if you have been feeding radiator seal/ cracked head sealer into the coolant system, I'm betting that's half of your problem...
That ***** blocks holes! Like water galleries ! Like the fine/small ones in the head and cores! One can of that crap can block a dirty heater core!
Have a look at the nav zd head gasket water ports/galleries... see how small they are compared to the "head and blocks" water galleries on either side of that gasket! Theres a reason for that also!
What do you think happens there when you add buckets of radiator sealant to a dirty coolant system...

You may have had a blocked coolant system at the start and not a cracked head before you added the tubs of sealant!
Did you test for a cracked head before playing superbleep mechanic and adding mountains of Apooh to your radiator lol
How many "grams" of "sealant/SOLID " have you fed it?
Lol, I'm sorry, but, where do people think it magically goes? Fills a crack then the rest magically disappears lol no, it settles in your system and causes issues for the poor bloke that buys it from the car yard ;)
Me personally, I'd be buying 5lt of c.r.c and flushing it with that ;)

That "additive" is a swine, great to get you home- but a swine to deal with afterwards! If you did have blocked cores, that crap has now settled over it like a steal blanket, no flush will remove it! Reverse flush may, but doubtful!

Buy the manual and have a look at the coolant direction and galleries! These stinking zd coolant systems are insane, if you have a faulty radiator cap it can cause the Thermostat not to open.. yup, there's that much pressure running that system it's nuts!
Why would you put the Thermostat in that position Nissan???

And, Yeah, stop using additives my man! Once maybe! But twice- you've got motor issues.. try a flush treatment- a few times, you may get lucky- or it will show her weaknesses, head or core!

All good. U just keep putting water in it every so often. Watch it bubbling away when it gets full. If/when it gets any worse I’ll cross that bridge then.
