    Spare tyre size dilemma...

Most off road trips are somewhere in Tassie, so in theory nothing is very far from a repair shop. But you'd be amazed how "remote" it can get down here sometimes. It might only be 100kms to a workshop, but it'll be over 2 mountain ranges on a goat track that takes hours & hours y'know. Next year...

    Spare tyre size dilemma...

Howdy gurus, My daily set of rims and tyres are stock STX rims with 265/65/17 A/T tyres. My second set, for off road & trips are 17x8 steelies with 285/70/17 M/T's. (I have a fifth rim, but only 4 big tyres at this stage) The spare under the tub at the moment is a 16x7(?) with...I think... a...

    D40 and Towing heavy vans

Although I don't tow a caravan, I have been monitoring & troubleshooting my own coolant temp issues ('08 D40 VSK M/T) I have another thread that I'm planning to update at the end of Summer. My biggest question remains re engine coolant temps (uphill under load): What is normal? I'd thought I'd...

    Rusty roof channels

Couple more. I prepped & sprayed the lower fwd section of the rear guards just to use up the expensive one-off paint can.

    Rusty roof channels

A big week pretending to be a panel beater & spray painter. Just gotta take the tape off tomorrow to see how good / bad it looks.

    Rusty roof channels

Thanks Tony. So it is indeed body filler in the channel? (we thought so...) I went down to my local auto paint wholesaler (Spectrum) and worked out a game plan with a very helpful bloke. He made up a 2 pac single can that is a one-off use base+clear. Basically he told me the steps he...

    Rusty roof channels

G'day Navheads, Has anyone else seen rust in their roof channels? (See photos) I'm about to fit a permanent flat tray roof rack, but I think I should fix/treat the rust first... Bodywork is not my strong suite. Anyone got advice for a straight forward method? How much do I sand back? Rust...

    Cooling fan clutch

I'm due to follow-up this thread with more findings... but wanted to get more Summer kms travelled before making conclusions...

    Fuel pressure relief valve leaking

I work on very large diesels for a living. 190Nm by hand is getting up there. You'll need big leverage. Was that number from documentation or a facebook mechanic?

    D40 Locking Itself

Mine did the same thing last year. While it was sitting in the driveway with the engine running! Cost me $300+ to get the local lockie with his tools. He said a lot of cars do it randomly and they dunno why. They get call outs for plenty of euro brands. Apparently the old D40 is a much faster...

    Engine failure

Yeah I had a 1970 Datsun 1600 for over 20 years. It went through a few different configurations. 'Twas much easier to work on than a modern diesel 4x4!

    Component speaker help please

You might have mixed polarity if it's sounding strange or lacking volume/punch...?

    Engine wont start

You mentioned you'd had the auto trans semi-disassembled? Was the shifter/linkages/switches/loom/inhibitor disturbed? If not, disregard my first post....I was just joining dots... If so, use a multi-meter to check continuity in the selector / inhibitor circuits while you move the gear selector...

    Engine wont start

Check that the TCU/ECU is getting the signal for P for Park or N for neutral. If the gear selector switches are in any other position you'll get no start..

    Engine failure

Yeah I don't think it will matter much either way. 5w30 is quite "thin" so it should allow some initial wear-in to occur (?) ....good wear-in that is! ....and keeping the rebuild warranty is more important than any difference in oils. I know from experience that the amount of time, effort...

    Component speaker help please

I got around to looking at a wiring diagram today. The wire colours seem to correlate to my Nav and the tweeter circuit is shown, so I think it's the right diagram (so many different Navs over the years!) It looks like the output for the tweeters is spliced into the wires for the door speakers...
