I remember speaking with a guy in WA who was/is known for supplying rebuilt V9X's. He had at least one new crate engine from Nissan. And he was stockpiling used V9X's for parts. But he wasn't interested in selling any of it yet.

Well he needed a working ute immediately, so he bought another D40 (yd25) and we swapped a few upgrade parts from the 550. The truck has been sitting in the yard for a few months while we think about the next step. We haven't ruled out an LS1 or VK56 conversion... but paying local conversion...

Totally agree. If you suspect that the whole motor needs a tear down & inspect, then just commit to removing it. More work initially, but much better overall. Obviously depends the tools & shed available.

My old man's V9X recently failed. I made a lot of calls (around Australia) including a Nissan dealer. There was bugger all support out there for the 6 cylinder diesel unfortunately. You might have better luck, but I couldn't find a workshop that would rebuild ours because there's no more engine...

My old man's place is in the bush at the end of a dirt road. There's hundreds of critters on the road at night. He knows when the forestry workers have been through the area because there's an increase in roadkill. They don't brake, swerve or avoid :(
