    Outside Temp Display

Today I installed the outside/inside temperature display. It clipped into the Nissan standard switch opening to the left of the steering column. I used the power socket for the switched 12V supply. I ran the outside probe through the left hand side firewall grommet, under the airbox and cabled...

    My 2013 D40 ST - A.K.A. Black Betty

I fixed this problem by installing 25mm extended upper ball joints.

    Start radio on USB

So each time you start the car you have to push the USB button? If it's a momentary switch you could use the FRM01 timer relay as an electronic finger that "pushes the button" for you a few seconds after the car starts. I used one to automatically turn my cruise control on seven seconds after...

Cruise control turns on but won't set

I reckon the 2007 VSK probably didn't have it in the first place. I've seen others complain they don't have that set light. It's like the MNT doesn't have the outside temperature display even though the field is there in the lcd display.

Cruise control turns on but won't set

Ah well that's good news it's working now. Some models don't have a "set" light. So previously your CC was holding a cruise speed with a "set" light illuminated on the dash? I see you have a 2007 D40 ... is it VSK or MNT?

Cruise control turns on but won't set

When I was interrogating the wiring diagram I couldn't find anything other than CC using the NPS. Old Tony may know something.

Cruise control turns on but won't set

Yes that's what I'd do ... see if it "sets" when unplugged. If not bridge the wires at the connector and see if that allows it to "set". You'll have to be careful if the CC does "set" either bridged or unbridged as you're telling the CC system your transmission is in gear and can be "set". If...

Cruise control turns on but won't set

When I checked the NPS with a multi meter the internal switch contacts are open when the plunger is pushed in and closed when it's fully protruding. So when in gear is the switch open or closed? Is the plunger being pushed or left fully protruded? If the NPS is unplugged it's the same as pushing...

    Boost solenoid

Goss make a high quality BCS for our Nissan's. My first try was a $40 eBay type and it was terrible. It vibrated and buzzed constantly and was clearly low quality. The boost was all over the place. Once the Goss unit went on it was like chalk and cheese ... quiet and controlled the way it...

Cruise control turns on but won't set

I have a friend with a Thai D40 2012 STX diesel manual king cab. About a year ago his CC started un-setting itself. He was going to buy a new NPS but I convinced him to save his cash and do the spot weld trick on the end of the plunger. Since then we've been on about 8 expeditions into remote...

Cruise control turns on but won't set

There's a good chance it's your NPS. It's very common for the switch to wear internally meaning the contacts don't quite work. It's an easy repair.

Removing the steering wheel from a 2013 RX

As a refresher I just went out side and pulled the airbag off a couple of times. This time I did the RHS first. Using the tips of the fingers on your left hand pull hard on the top of the airbag slightly right of centre while pushing the right clip in with a notched screwdriver ... you'll feel...

Removing the steering wheel from a 2013 RX

I've had mine off a few of times. The Thai built have the two clips at 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock. You remove the little plugs to gain access. Once you have a picture in your mind of where the clips are it's quite easy. The airbag assembly is held snugly by plastic dowells with a barb in a slotted...

    Outside Temp Display

Yes that was my thinking. Both the outside temp and L/100km display during test mode. An Electronic Engineer or Technician needs to interrogate the instrument cluster PCB to nut it out. I'm not convinced it's impossible to activate those features on the Thai display. We need the appropriately...

    Outside Temp Display

It appears it's complicated or maybe impossible to get the outside temperature display activated on the Thai (or Siam :)) built D40's. I did some poking around and found terminals 49 & 50 don't exist on the Thai cluster. It only has one 24 pin connector. I even dismantled the cluster and tested...

    Engine oil

I've been using Penrite HPR5 5W-40 full synthetic since I bought the D40 nearly 5 years ago. I spoke to an Engineer in the Penrite Technical Dept just to make sure. They said it would be fine even in the sometimes 40C summer days in Western Australia. I figured they'd be unlikely to endorse an...

D40 YD25 DDTI Turbo Adjustments On the car

My turbo actuator had been played with by a previous owner. I had the same problem with about 14psi max. and it wasn't hitting the adjusting screw. After doing the research I found the way to adjust the rod on a Garret Turbo is an iterative process with a vacuum pump with gauge and then a drive...

    OBD2 suggestions

I've had the AP200 Maxi since early 2020. It's a great bit of equipment and is ideal for the DIY'er. I chose Nissan as my life time included brand. It's about $20 p.a. if I want to add another manufacturer. As previously mentioned I've coded a $20 Aliexpress spare key. I was quoted hundreds at...

    Scanning tool

I use Torque but you can't do anything with it. It only scans the ECU to display the industry standard fault codes so some Nissan ones are not read. I also purchased the Autel Maxi AP200 (search on eBay) for about $100 which gives access to all codes in all modules. The really good features are...

    Mounting bull bars

You need to check the build country for the ST ... I think they were MNT (Thailand). The difference your seeing would be Spain versus Thailand built. The end of the chassis rails are different so you have to make sure you get the correct mounting bracket kit. The bolt holes are vertical on...
