    Hi from Perth

The most important thing is probably to keep your right foot light. The D22 ZD30 is a slow boat. It will get there, often last. If you can accept that, the engine can serve you for a very long time. As opposed to those who get there first, but sometimes not at all.

    Overheat on hill under load

Do you still have torque left when climbing the hill in 5th (or 4th) gear? Put it differently, can you still accellerate whille climbing the hill? If you cant, shift down. Some hills are too steep for 5th (or 4th) gear, especially when towing. Don't wait with shifting down until the speed...

Engine taking a long time to cool down.

Mine does that too, even though I have no overheating issues. So I'd guess that is pretty normal.

Radio turns on but no sound

If both speakers go out simultaneously its the radio itself. If either speaker goes off it could be speaker wires. If the radio doesn't lose power when the speakers go out you probably need a new radio. Theoretically, the radio could turn of the other speaker when it loses the connection to...

Rig dropped power then cut out completely without any prior symptoms

If it cranks, the battery is OK. light may come up if the alternator has died, but that wont stop the engine until the battery is completely flat. And it isn't, cause you can still crank it. Engine power loss is because of loss of fuel, or loss of air. Loss of fuel can be a broken pump, or a...

Have you considered a genuine wrecker's one?

    Carrying 8x4 plywood & plasterboard

I would put a sheet of ply on the bottom, resting on the wheel arches in front and on the (closed) tailgate at the back. Then put the plasterboard on top and tie everything down properly, including at the back so it cannot slide out when driving uphill.

rock lights and gear shifter lever

Mine just screws off, exactly the same as my gear lever. (2004 D22, but as (almost?) all 4x4 D22's had the same transfer case, I would suspect thay all had the same lever)

D22 runs perfectly. stops and won't start until had a rest, then runs perfectly for 10-15ks please help

The temp gauge is driven by a sensor on the side, halfway on the cylinderblock on the battery side. That sensor is not connected to the ECU it appears. The ECU-temp sensor is on the right front edge, where the coolant goes into the radiator (or comes out of the radiator, I don't know the flow...

D22 runs perfectly. stops and won't start until had a rest, then runs perfectly for 10-15ks please help

Did you actually check the Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor? The thingy used by the ECU to determine engine temp, EGR control, etc? Its independent from the thermostate that controls coolant flow.

    Water logged D22

Hi Mate, I know exactly what you're feeling right now... Got my ZD30 stuck in a boghole last june. Engine ran irregular afterwards and died after another 20km. No water in the diesel though. Problem was that the ECU (which is in the cab, below the ashtrays) got soaked too, and contaminated...

    No boost/ limp mode

Solenoid resistance between 10 and 20 ohms is probably all good. If the manufacturer of the solenoid bought a spool of wire from a different brand the resistance can easily change a few ohms, while the solenoid is still the same quality. If a good one measures 12.5, and yours maesures 14, i...

D22 runs perfectly. stops and won't start until had a rest, then runs perfectly for 10-15ks please help

Are you sure your ECU is ok? Just had an experience with my 2004 ZD30 D22: After getting the cab flooded the engine wouldn't start anymore (it had quit on the highway, no smoke, no shudder, just sudden loss of all power). After cleaning (and drying) the ECU, it ran again like nothing...

Oil sump lower pan bolt size

Go to supercheap (website or shop), tell them your rego and that you want a sump plug. Their system knows the right size.

    Gray Smoke and Coolant Loss

Gray smoke that dissipates quickly makes me think it is steam. Since it starts smoothly after a month (how much fluid does it lose in a month?) I wouldn't expect it is leaking in a place where it would affect combustion (like in a cylinder) I would look at all the places where the cooling...

[SOLVED] Yet another power loss and black smoke question (updated)

How sure are you about the steepnees of the hill? Physics tells that driving 2700kg of vehicle up a 25 degree hill at 60km/h requires at least 186kW to counteract gravity, let alone wind and rolling resistance. Obviously, that ain't gonna work with a 126kW engine. So I wonder whether you are...

    Extra fuel pump

My D22 (a 2004 model) has a low fuel light. I think only the petrol versions had a fuel pump (and thus four wires) in the tank, the diesel engines don't seem to have a pump, The low fuel light and the fuel gauge on the dashboard are both controlled by the same sensor in the tank.

    2004 ST-R3.0D Owners manual

Thanks Boogiebot, but that is the service manual. I allready downloaded that, and it has way more info than any ownersmanual. But a simple overview like in a ownersmanal would be nice.

    2004 ST-R3.0D Owners manual

Hi folks, Just got myself a 2004 ST-R 3.0D, without any documentation. Car runs fine as far as I've seen now, and I allready found the service-manual, but I wonder if anyone can give me a (digital) copy of the owners manual? Can't find it online, and Nissan doesn't have it anymore either (at...
